The Maintenance Guide For The Adult Body

Guide For maintain The Adult Body

When my family and friends mention that they're sick or going to the doctor, I list off a number of screenings to get and questions to ask -- on top of what they could have done to prevent themselves from getting sick in the first place. From this point ,on I will just link them to the following post.

Simple Steps to Maintaining Your Health:

1) First and foremost, it's important to establish a relationship with a primary care physician as you get older. From the day your child, is born you have a pediatrician looking out for them; afford yourself the same luxury.

2) Know your family history! This is an incredibly important step to take if the option is available.  Our understanding of genetic syndromes is growing rapidly, and with each passing day we develop effective ways to screen for and even treat conditions you may not have been aware you had. Figure out who had what and at what age they were diagnosed. I suggest keeping a log of this information that can be passed down and added to for generations to come.

3) Clairvoyance is not taught in medical school.  If you’ve been hospitalized or have had any procedures done in the last year, bring the records or reports to your next doctor visit. Keeping your doctor in the loop is more than half the battle.

4) Ask questions and seek answers. You may want to discuss vaccinations that are appropriate for you and consider the necessity of these vaccines and their purpose. Your doctor should be honest with you, but if you don’t start the dialog he won’t predict your concerns. See number three if you don’t understand why.

Before I segue to the part of this list that doesn’t involve your doctor, here is a list of screenings you can expect to need sooner or later. Discuss them with your doctor and understand when you are due for what.

5) Exercise regularly. I realize this is something that you hear all the time, but the importance becomes more evident every day.  Regular exercise does more than just make you slimmer. It helps prevent the top causes of death, such as obesity, heart disease, and cancer.

6) Sleep! It will keep you looking younger, feeling better, and most importantly, will allow your internal organs to function at their best.

7) Skin is your most exposed organ as it acts as protection for the rest of your body.  Keep it safe, so it can keep you safe.

8) Listen to your body. The human body is an incredibly complex machine with all sorts of warning mechanisms meant to let you know when something is wrong. Neglecting these warnings often leads to worsening conditions, including chronic pain or illness. It’s easier to treat minor conditions than to deal with the aftermath of not treating them.

9) Eat well. Very simply, what you put in your body is what you can expect to get out of it.

10) Take time to enjoy your family, friends, and community. Research shows that those who feel like they belong live healthier longer lives.
